Deleting your WhenStars account
You can delete your account and everything in it, from inside the app or by writing to us. You do not need to install anything to make the request, and you do not need to be able to sign in.
In the app, which is immediate
Open WhenStars, go to Account, scroll to Delete this account and press Delete my account. If your email address is verified you will be asked for your password, because this is the one action with no undo and a signed-in phone on a table is not proof of who you are. If you never added an email address there is no password field at all: your session is the only proof you have, and it is accepted.
The deletion happens straight away. There is no waiting period and no cooling-off window during which we could be persuaded to put it back.
By email, if you cannot open the app
Write to hello@whenstars.com from the address on the account and ask for it to be deleted. We answer within one month, which is the deadline GDPR Article 12(3) sets, and normally much sooner.
If your account has no email address
Most WhenStars accounts are anonymous, so there is nothing for us to match a message against. Your account has an identifier instead, shown in the app under Account as your WhenStars code. Quote it in your message and we can find the account from it.
The code is the only handle that exists. If you have deleted the app without noting it down and never gave us an email address, we have no way to tell your account apart from anyone else's, and we will have to say so rather than delete the wrong one. In that case the account holds only what you typed into it, it is not linked to your name, and it will stop being used the moment you stop using it.
What deletion removes
All of it, and not by marking a row hidden:
- The account itself, and your email address and password if it had them.
- Every chart you created, with the birth details, places and times in them.
- Your access rights to those charts.
- Every sign-in session and every outstanding link we had emailed you.
- Any sign-in identity connected to the account.
- Any order that had been started but not completed.
What survives, and why
Two things outlive the account. Both are described in the Privacy Notice, and neither can be turned back into you.
- A one-way hash of the email address that started a free trial. It cannot be reversed or read out as a list of people. It exists so that deleting an account and signing up again does not hand out a second free month.
- Completed and refunded purchases. Tax law requires keeping the financial record. The amount, currency, date and item stay; the link to you is removed, so the record no longer says who bought it.
The record that you agreed to the terms follows the same line. If you never paid us anything it is erased along with the account. If you ever made a purchase, a pseudonymised copy is kept for three years, the limitation period for a contract claim, and then deletes itself.
Anything else you want done
Erasure is one of several rights you hold. You can also ask for a copy of your data, have something inaccurate corrected, or object to what we do with it. The Privacy Notice sets all of them out, and they go to the same address: hello@whenstars.com.
